TROM Computers - a community project.

append delete David Winter

I stumbled on this while browsing the Tromsite Tools section, and kind of wonder what it is!
So I'm trying this out as a way to generate interest on a project I'm starting that is dedicated to the active promotion of TROMjaro as an alternative to Windows primarily, and probably Apple as well, though there may be no hope for Apple users for the foreseeable future.
Questions I have:
-- who is reading this?
-- how do I spread the message of 'this forum'?
-- I love the idea of 'no need to register, just enter the same name + password every time' can I use that idea? any IP payment needed for that? [I am joking, of course :)]

Anyway, the idea of the project is here!

I shared your message in the TROM Discussions public chatroom at where you can join the discussion if you want.

There you can reply to the following answer from Tio:

yah ive heard of this before....i mean, do whatever you want with tromjaro, is trade-free :D

and if they indeed create a trade-free service of offering computers with tromjaro then great, we can invite them to a tromcast, but it is ofc their responsability :D

i doubt such enthuziastic projects....i want to see them functional :P

ive seen many excited people having exciting ideas and describing them in pdfs or google docs and then nothing happened :

so will see

Hi Alexio,

Tio was right to anticipate an enthusiasm dip which happened with me over the past few weeks. But it's been rumbling under the surface and just got a boost with some community work, another request for a TROM Computer that I didn't have so I gave her my own. And a press release that we put out earlier in the week:

Depending on what happens with response from this and on further development of the part of the project plan that includes going out to meet potential supporters, there may well be another lapse or even a complete stop. But as Tio said wisely ' we will see'.

Next step is a press release that introduces a major supporter of the project (a network rail company with a community development budget!), but that really is a half baked potato that hopefully will be nice and browned for the release scheduled for Monday 01feb21.

If talks work in the meantime, we are looking at making each railway station in the UK South East network a drop off for old computers and laptops and a pick up point for re-enlivened TROM Computers!

More on that later. :)

The latest - adoption of the Raspberry Pi for TROM Computers

We're hoping to start a drop-in centre where we can have a range of refurbished computers with Tromjaro installed, and the Raspberry Pi 4 and 400 with Manjaro, but Tromjaro eventually (Tracy's work in progress) ... watch this space.

(Leave this as-is, it’s a trap!)

There is no need to “register”, just enter the same name + password of your choice every time.
